Ryan had her 9 month check-up today. Since her 6 month appointment, she has gained 2 pounds, 2 ounces, and 2 inches!! Her development is still very slow and because she still can’t hold her head up consistently, she’s not making a ton of progress. At well-baby check-ups the pediatrician usually gives you a checklist of milestones for that age and things to look forward to. We don’t get that checklist at Ryan’s visits which is kind of sad.
But in the last 2 weeks Ryan has done something very typical of a 9 month old. She has dropped her third nap, dropped a bottle, and added a meal. She is now only getting 3 bottles a day but she’s eating 3 meals. Her breakfast and lunch are pretty small but she chows at dinner. All meals consist of rice cereal and a fruit or veggie. I think the feeding team will be pleased when we see them next month. The only concern is that she’s still getting enough formula a day. It’s almost a struggle at this point to get her to take 6 ounces in a bottle. She takes 2 good naps a day and sleeps for about 11 hours at night. I have to admit that it’s been nice having a bit of a break at night with her going to bed earlier. We have also swapped out a lot of her 6 month clothes for 9 to 12 month clothes and they fit! It’s hard to imagine that Charlie ever fit into all the stuff that Ryan’s now wearing.
Other things to note:
1. We got a swing set last week. It’s a huge hit with both girls. Ryan LOVES the bucket swing. We use an insert to keep her stable and she is so content when she’s moving. She’ll even giggle when I run my fingers down her legs to her feet when she swings toward me.
2. The girls start with a new sitter tomorrow. We found a woman near us who is the mom of one of my former students. She isn’t taking care of any other kids right now and that’s a big plus because she can just focus on our girls. I’m a little bummed that Charlie won’t have playmates, but she’ll be in preschool this fall (and the new sitter will transport her!!!). They will be going 2 or 3 days a week in the summer so they can get used to her before I go back to work.
3. We have the neurosurgery appointment on Thursday so I’ll update then.
4. Ryan starts up with physical therapy Friday. My insurance doesn’t cover PT for developmental delay so we had to jump through some hoops but we got it approved and I’m really anxious to get her going again and hopefully see some more progress with her strength.
