Christmas was bittersweet this year. We had a really wonderful Christmas Eve and Christmas morning with the girls relaxing, reading books, and opening presents. It was so nice to have everyone healthy and happy. Last year, when we had just gotten Ryan’s diagnosis, it was a chore just to get out of bed and face the day. Even on Christmas. It seems like that was a lifetime ago and this year I felt so peaceful knowing that Ryan has come such a long way in one year… I can’t wait to see what she’ll be like next Christmas!
Unfortunately, Katie’s wonderful, beautiful, and loving grandmother passed away tonight. Instead of coming to the family’s Christmas celebration yesterday, she was brought to the hospital. Grandma E. was 89 years young. She was the beloved matriarch of Katie’s father’s family – married for 67 years she had 7 children, 17 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren with more on the way. She was a wonderful grandmother and great-grandmother. Grandma E. never did quite understand how I got pregnant but it didn’t matter. She accepted me into her family without judgment and couldn’t get enough of our girls. She had such a sweet relationship with Charlie and I really dread having to tell her that Great-Grandma is now in heaven. She was so sweet with Ryan too. She would look at Ryan and say “Well, she looks just fine to me”! I really don’t have the words to explain how wonderful Grandma E. was, you can see it for yourself.
